Artist Statement

Billy Mathieson is a pianist, composer, and educator dedicated to a lifelong craft of musical exploration. Guided by instinct and imagination, he pushes artistic boundaries through improvisation, composition, and collaboration — always with the aim of sharing music with the global community.

His growth as a musician extends beyond the classroom, nurtured through gigging, recording, transcribing, composing and regular performance.

Influences & Philosophy

Billy acknowledges the deep influence of Melbourne’s thriving music scene and the many mentors and artists who continue to shape his craft. He sees his role as carrying forward this cultural baton — keeping the fire of music alive, relevant and accessible in an ever-changing society.
